The theatre was built on the north side of the Decumanus Maximus of Ostia. Built in the Augustan age in a reticulated opus, it has a capacity of 3,000 spectators. During the history it has undergone numerous changes up to the modern age.
The restoration and consolidation project were concentrated in the area of the parodoi, in the orchestra and in the central arches of the portico behind the cavea. These were mainly structural works and projects: the reintegration of the nuclei of the walls, the design of a system to solve the collapse of the cross vaults of the portico towards the Decumano, the correction of the slopes of the orchestra area, the realization of a flooring screed in the parodoi area, all in respect of the historical building and with attention to the context.
