The Church of San Francesco and the convent, in the historic center of Amatrice, constitute the most important historical building complex in the town. The Church, built between the end of the 14th and the beginning of the 15th century, has a gothic plan and is illuminated by three high single-lancet windows. The roof of the Church was supported by wooden trusses resting on the transverse walls.
In 2016 and early 2017, after the disastrous earthquakes , the structures partially collapsed and are seriously compromised. In order to be able to carry out interventions aimed at the restoration and consolidation of the historic building in the future, it was necessary to ensure the safety of the area. Given the considerable complexity of the situation, it was necessary to articulate the project in different phases, from clearing the rubble to shoring up the structure.
In addition, a provisional work was carried out to counter the collapse.
In this way, the carrying out of the subsequent phase of restoration and consolidation of the entire complex will be made safe.
